well i thought that since i've received such great responses to my problems that it would only be fitting to leave a nice message saying thanks again and to note that within 24 hours of diatom filtering my tank is approximately 90% clearer. in fact its clear enough now that i just noticed one of my anubias are flowering. what a great sight. thanks again guys for all your input....

Thanks,
Ryan

the tank is finally stable and plants are growing at a good rate. photosynthesis is full bore. my tank looks like i have air stones running everywhere during the day.
totally amazing. if anyone is interested please take a look at the latest photos.

this is my first attempt at a planted aquarium and i'm still trying to figure out what looks good. i'm also not very artistic so i have to battle that issue also.

any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Well, now you have a ref to compare decent growth to when you are doing things right. So when things do not look like that, then you know something's up.

Light is stable
Doing EI makes the nutrients pretty stable
So all that's really left is trimming, cleaning and CO2 and current.
