Very few of the snail species that we run into in an aquarium will eat any significant amount of plants. Generally they eat only the algae on the leafs. Since you don't have any fish, they aren't getting fed fish food either, so they will probably not expand their numbers, and just removing those you find will work best. If your tank is big enough you can put in a couple or three loaches, like Yoyo loaches, which I have, and the snails will very quickly be gone - cooked in garlic and served with butter (by the Yoyo's)

I find Clown Loaches work best for me in the past. They should be in a small school if you have a large tank>
