For sure- I am open to ideas.

There is not that much room since it is only a 20 regular.

    Any suggestions?

Cut the leaves affected by BBA , they will not recover

Don't scale back on CO2 if fish are fine , you might have BBA from insufficient CO2 or too much light

Realized today that I almost always post pictures of the tank when it is badly in need of trimming, or right after being trimmed. Rarely in the 24-hour window in between , lol.

Also, not sure where I got this little hitchhiker- at first I thought it must be a nubbin of pantanal, but it clearly is not- any ideas why it could be? It is sprouting some new stems at the base, too. To the naked eye, the color is a little more rusty orange than in this picture.

Hey all! Still alive, just busy. Had a bit of a hair algae outbreak, which was surprising. I check the tank daily, so I managed to intervene and (I hope) catch it in time- only bummer is that during the blackout my pantanal really suffered. I am back down to just 3 healthy stems. Here is a pic from before maintenance last night- pulled out all the bacopa and aromatica mini so that I could be careful about trimming and replanting it, since they were both getting leggy.

Oh, and I finally figured out the grow-out tank problem. Was a pain in the donkey, but I swapped out all the substrate and now things are growing normally.

Here are some pics all trimmed up again.

I continue to get small breakouts of BBA, but I pick leaves off as I see them, and that has helped. I also reduced the photo period to 6 hours- everything is doing ok with the reduced light except for the pantanal- but it may also still be recovering from the 3 day blackout I did.

You can see the beige/orange hitchhiker plant is continuing to grow- any ideas what it might be?

It is a royal pain to pull out and replant the bacopa because it is so invasive, but I want straight stalks.

My now sad pantanal. Hoping for a comeback because I love it so much.

Grow out tank is finally ready to actually grow out things now. I don’t know what part of my previous substrate mix was the problem, but pulling it all out and starting fresh made all the difference. Planted trimmings of the bacopa, aromatica mini, S. repens, and L. repens- along side some random plants I used to restart it.

Anyone know what this plant is? It wasn’t labeled at the LFS- it is really growing nicely and I find it very attractive. It has doubled in height and the leaves are much larger in just 2 weeks.

Here are some better pics of the mystery plant in the grow out tank. It looks like a bigger bacopa, but the leaves are less rounded, so I am it sure.

Went to a club event today, and while I was sad not to have more tanks to fill, I came home and realized how happy I am with how my little 20g is maturing!

    Thanks!

No, those are my same 3 stems I have had for awhile. They keep growing, I take them out, cut them to about 4”, replant, repeat.

They never produce more stems, though- so I want more to fill in that space.

Well I hate to blow a sale here :) But have you tried leaving the stumps in place? It's generally a prolific re-sprouter, even if the tops go bad.

Let them grow as tall as possible before topping, even laying over the surface a little bit. This is to give the bottom stems more time to get some roots. Then cut the tops off and replant them however tall you want. Chop the stumps down to maybe 5 or 6 inches and Just leave them in place. Dont move them.

I would be shocked if each one doesnt produce 2-3 new ones.

I hear you, and thanks for being straight with me, but it is the weirdest thing- I have tried what you suggested, and everyone tells me the same thing you do, that they should be sprouting like mad based on how healthy the main stems are.

For 4-5 months though, all I get is the seemingly never ending growth from the 3 stems (4” a week, conservatively) and nothing from the stumps when I leave them in. I have tried replanting the stumps in the grow out tank- nothing. Stick the stumps out in the open of the main tank- nothing.

    So weird.

Hey all! This little spring of a mystery plant has developed into a pretty nice clump. Is this an ammania species of some sort? It is more yellow/orange in real life- the pictures make it just look light green. Thanks!

Just some proof of life pics- did a major trim on the main tank, rearranging the front a bit. Cleaned up the grow out tank quite a bit, too.

Anyone have tips on how to trim/propagate Periscaria sp.? The 3 samples I have are growing well, but just straight up- no signs of branching- and now are breaching the surface of the 29g.

Hey all- haven’t been updating this thread much because the tank has been looking pretty rough, to be honest.

Tank needs a serious trim- developing some hair and BBA. Too heavily stocked- if anyone wants some free guppies, let me know. Too many random stems thrown in.

Speaking of which, added some unlabeled rotala stems in a couple of months ago and it is doing well- can anyone help me ID it? Leaves are about 1.5 inches long, and pink underneath as you can see. Very delicate.

Lost all my pantanal, seemingly overnight, which was a real bummer.

I am going to take out a short, flat rock on the right hand side, in front of the aromatica mini- right now it is serving no purpose, other than growing BBA.

It will be a mess, but a good move in the long run. Going to move the AR back there, and moving my pretty little lavender crypto to the front, with S. repens in between.

More pics after I do the trim and take out the rock.

Ok, took forever to do it right, but all trimmed up and cleaned. My AR mini is down to little nubbins after taking all the algae infected leaves, but I think it will bounce back.

Gave away all the fish except for 5 corys and 5 otos- should help keep the balance.

Send up a RAOK on some trimming and moss if you are near Riverside, CA this week...
