If your Syns are still not doing well, you can try some Osmocote+ tabs. Worked well for me for the nice ones I received from Dennis some time ago. I just threw away about 80 heads. The best Belem had about 15 heads.

That is actually what I used because my local nursery swears by it- I think my rocks are buffering up the pH and GH

Thanks for your kind words. I use two Fluval Fresh and Plant 2.0 most of the day and two Fluval Aquasky as a booster for the evening. Might be too much light. Some of the Syns were shaded due to overgrowth but still did well. This was a side view of the tank and not all of them were shown.

Quick update- water change day today, but no trimming, other than to pull out some runners of the dwarf sag (that is what I think it is, anyway).

    feda63ec6eddf84350123750120888e8.jpg

I was tempted to trim the pantanal because it ran to the surface already, but I want to give the side shoots another week before replanting all of them to (hopefully) create a nice, dense grouping. The L. arcuata will get another week of growing and then its first trim.

    d1730f6c4cb3070c0a8cf3c9f17e5583.jpg

AR and repens have both bounced back nicely- almost all leaves look healthy now, and the repens is finally starting to fill in again. Not sure why my iPhone changes the color temperature so drastically when I zoom in to certain sections... to the eye, the color is not quite as “cool” as in this pic, and not quite as “warm” as in the FTS.

    a1afc2e1e53b2019bc6437122b7a668e.jpg

The P. stellata looks ragged on the left hand side, but it is because that one stem in branching like crazy, as you can see from the top-down view. Once they are a bit longer, I am going to replant the group to fill in the gaps you can see as the stalks get tall.
If it continues to grow faster than I can keep up, I will switch it out with P. erectus, or something similarly bushy but not 3-4” across.

The syn belem are showing nice, green growth in the middle again after a week of dosing.

    92fd75aef3efef2795a55f2c15af94ce.jpg

I have made the decision to swap out the Rotala whatever on the right hand side with some Limnophila Aromatica Mini, if I can find it.

Everybody have an awesome week! Get your sleeves wet!

As you can see- one week of no trimming and I am pretty overgrown. Originally my plan for this tank was to have a lot of open space above the plants (you can see my original plan early in the journal), but I am thinking now to allow more growth to the surface. Not this much, though!

Going to do a major trim, today- and probably alter the layout somewhat. Time to finally say farewell to the syn’s- I just don’t have the right parameters for them and I don’t want to alter the whole tank to accommodate them.

New pictures once it is done!

Replanting the P. stellata shorter and tighter than ever. Bought some Kimberly to replace it, but it arrived as mush, unfortunately. Helped by the one stem I left in after taking off the top- 6 good stems after being less than an inch two weeks ago.

Added some L. repens to break up the shapes in the back, and replanted just a few of the best L. arcuata stems, giving the pantanal more space. Replanted the panatanal as 5 healthy tops and 3 bottoms- hopefully that will give me some graduated heights of the crowns. I sure love pantanal- what a beautiful plant.

Replanting the S. repens across the front.

    2e0e53832531157467b45595a714f5d3.jpg

Planting some variegated. AR at the front where I can easily see it. Once I let the tank rest a bit, I am going to switch the current order of the S. repens and AR mini, to created better depth.

Quick video of the tank after round 1 of trimming. Most of the shrimp are still hiding, but the fish are out and active, as always. Enjoy!

Hey all, no major changes this week- though I am seeing some things I am not happy with:

    9db7509477faa1947a02f7546f25518b.jpg

As you can see, the L. pantanal and P. stellata continue to show why they are not usually recommended for a 20g, lol. I mean, go back and look at how short I trimmed the stellata last time- crazy.

The AR mini has now fully bounced back from the trimming. Still experiencing some leaf curl, but I am loving the color.

Unfortunately, you can see that I am getting yellowing again on the repens. The repens seems to be very sensitive to my EI dosing (in a bad way). When I back off, it gets better, but everything else gets wonky.

Concerned about my bacopa- it was bullet proof since the day I planted it, but has really fallen apart this week- I wonder if it is because I trimmed it? Most of the rot seems to be below the new growth. It is also being surprisingly invasive... when I do the repens/AR replant, I may pull up all the bacopa and replant it as well.

    3c70c0123b9d3498830650440afb159c.jpg

Replaced the Rotala green (or whatever it was) with some aromatica mini.

    882d2afff41c1e2f8183b3a80b4d8e20.jpg

The one sprig of AR variegated that I split up and brought out into the light is doing well. I pulled up about half of the cryp- you can see where the potting soil came up. I left it for now because I will have a lot more once I move the AR.

The Ludwigia repens is growing slowly- but it is growing!

Thanks for checking in! Keep your sleeves wet!

I went ahead and pulled the trigger (and the plants) to completely re-do the bacopa, and swap out the repens and AR.

To my point about the bacopa being invasive, check out this picture of how much of it there actually was once I pulled out every runner:

This is how much AR went into the grow out tank:

Started up a grow out tank- half stuff my my tank, half stuff from someone else that ended up arriving in pretty crappy shape. Still cycling, so please excuse the cloudy water.

    aa596691f6c15e716b4bec8a289b2b8d.jpg

And because it is always fun to see how the pantanal and P. stellata grow on a daily basis, here is the main tank- nicely recovered from AR-mageddon.

Geektom you might as well give in now.......you know there is a bigger tank somewhere in your near future. Your talents need to be displayed on a bigger canvas. Think of the fun you could have!

If I were a betting man, which I am, then I would bet that it won't be too long.
