Hi all,

I have a bit of this in my tank and is currently receiving very low light as it is under anubias coffeefolia leaf protection/shade :)

I want to expand it a bit as I think it is really pretty.

Can it handle high light upwards with PAR of 75-100 mmoles?

Or is it best kept in lower light and shade?

Or can it do both?

Thanks!

The fissidens in my tank currently doing best is at the surface growing along a branch that leaves the water at about a 30 degree angle. Quite high light at this point, 175umol of par or so.

Thanks... so is some/all of it emersed? Or all underwater but just under the surface?

Thanks!

About 50/50 above and below, but I was specifically talking about the submerged growth. The growth above water looks green and healthy as well, but looks a bit different.

I have heard it grows better with less light, but I haven't seen much difference besides the growth rate.

growth when shaded tends to be longer while under brighter light is more compact. it can be prone to thread algae or staghorn when CO2 issues occur. the stuff is pretty much permanent on the hardscape you attach to it. i had rocks taken out of a tank for a year that regrew the fissidens once put back into a tank. it is a great moss, IMO

It does fine in my 120 Gal tank and it's got ranges from 600 to 120 umols.

CO2........that's the key, it can handle a very wide range of lighting.
