Can anyone direct me to a good resource on fishless-cycling?

Is fishless-cycling in a planted tank any different to non-planted?

FC is very different in a Planted tank, something called a silent cycle, because there is no cycle in a planted tank, plants take up the NH4 directly. Unless you add maybe .3-.6 ppm a day of NH4, it's not likely.
Folks do not add fish to planted tanks for 2-4 weeks anyway. So things are already done by then.
FC is geared for the newbie fish only keeper, but that is still not reason to promote it.

The dirt filth from a sponge or old mature tank's filter media adds the best cycling bacteria you can ever get: fresh off the cob so to speak.
Never had an issue cycling a tank is 35+ years with plants or the filthy mulm dirt.

New tanks: folks need/should do several large water changes for the 1st month anyway.
This prevent any build up of anything. Plants do the rest. Floating water sprite can be used to cycle any FW aquarium.
