Excel - 7 day substitute for c02 gas?

Hey all,

I need to refill my tanks but the refill business is closed for a week of vacation.

1. Can I use Excel for a week as a substitute?

I know it won't be as good, I am more concerned that the plants would suffer.

I would only dose per the instructions........

2. Anyone know of a c02 refill near Boca Raton, FL?

I'm not sure, but Excel will at least help prevent too much algae. I would reduce lighting, anyway, until you get your co2 back. This will prevent deficiencies from getting too aggressive.

Reducing the duration does not compensate adequately for loss of CO2. You have to reduce the intensity - by at least half and more likely by a factor of 4.

I just go to a fire extinguisher company for refills. You should be able to find one near you easy enough.

Got it. I will raise the lights to their max.

1/2 or a factor of 4 could be tough as I have 3 150w MH bulbs.

Even if I remove one or two, there will be NO light in those sections. I could keep the middle one, but then the ends will be dark........

Yes, I am using a fire extinguisher company. Seems to be the only one in my area that does this. Plus, am at work, so web searches are blocked.......

Is why I always use the same place...........

I usually get my CO2 refilled at AirGas. I believe they are nationwide? I usually drive the CO2 tank there and they fill it up on the spot. Not sure if AirGas is in FL. or not.

At least here in CO, Airgas will not touch them unless the tanks are theirs (leased).

The Fire Extinguisher place will sell you a bottle and fill it. But I was told that you own the bottle and all inspection (yearly) come out of your pocket

With the lease, the only thing you ever pay for is the fill. Might inquire before purchase.

$20 for 5 lb and $29 for 10 lb refill. A little more than the other place, but closer. Had to leave them for p/u next day.

BTW, no adverse affects on the plants. Kept an eye on them and they seemed fine, just no pearling with no c02.

Pearling now and they seem happier, at least I am................
