Evaporation and EQ dosing

I'm doing limited water changes - about once a month in 3 non CO2 Excel tanks and dosing EQ per Tom's recommendation in the article "Non CO2 Methods". My question is should I cut back on EQ if I'm adding water to make up for evaporation. I probably average about 1 to 2 gallons added a week in my 55's.

I'm asking because I saw a thread on open top tanks that recommended using RO water to avoid GH concentrations building up. I think my tap water runs about 7 g/gallon so it is definetely on the hard side. Is there a problem with GH concentrations building up and what would be the symptoms if there were?

Thanks, Bill

Re: Evaporation and EQ dosing

I have hard water as well and have no issues.
It may matter a little if evap rates are very high and you want to eep the KH/Gh low for fish..............

Re: Evaporation and EQ dosing

Thanks Tom - all my fish seem fine. I don't have anything fussy for fish anyway - yet another false issue shot down. It seems the more I learn the less I have to worry about :) .
