Not to muddy your post or anything, but your R. mini butterfly is actually Rotala Macrandra 'Narrow Leaf' (or 'Magenta' name is interchangeable i believe), I purchased some the last time you offered some, and its completely different from my actual rotala mini butterfly. Still a very nice and red plant.

This same plant came from AFA and was labeled as mini butterfly.
It looks like the pics that label it as such.

Mine grows differently and had some of the green and red mix that's typical on the mini butterfly, but the leaves get longer.
I do not think we really know what it is.

    It's not R. macrandra though.

Ah ok, that makes more sense now. But one thing is clear at least to me is that AFA has it mis-labeled. I have never owned rotala macrandra 'narrow leaf' so I was only comparing it against photos, which it looks like some photos, but not so much others.

So now what I wonder is what species you actually have, interesting...

This is what I consider true 'mini butterfly', it has shorter rounder leaves (not pointed like yours), and its more of a maroonish red vs orangey red of yours.

Mythin, mine started out that way...then I ended up with this.

Sort of like many of Buce's started out as mini this or that, only to grow nice and large under optimal conditions.

They are 2 different species (or varieties) I have both in the same tank, and both are stable different varieties, they are not the same plant. Both are growing well, yours grows very elongated leaves that are pointed, the other variety grows shorter leaves that are rounded. They are not the same plant.

I dont know why you are arguing this point, even you stated that what you have is different and you dont know what to call it. I believe what you have is Rotala Mini buttefly type V, and what I am talking about is Rotala mini butterfly type IV, but yours looks closer to Rotala Macrandra 'Narrow Leaf', in my tank your version is leaf tip to leaf tip ~2 inchs, so its not that mini of a plant compared to my other rotala mini butterfly type iv, which leaf tip to leaf tip is ~1inch.

This may explain it a bit more, although i find both types to be perfectly stable.

I'm stating that to the type I got looked just like your IV.
But it ended up looking like V after awhile.

There's no argument, this is just an observational fact.

This has occurred not once, but 3x.
If you think yours is a stable form, I'll buy some and we can see.
I hope that it is...........I would like something different after all :)
