With skipping one WC I wouldn't care too much and keep autodosing as regular. Since we all know that excess nutrients doesn't cause algae, it wouldn't be harmful. If you come back and have algae, you were probably not dosing enough before...;)

If that's not what you want, then you could measure the uptake over one week and adjust accordingly.

I dont think skipping one water change will give you issues.
You could do a bigger wc just before you go , say, 70-80% , or you could do 2x50% wc last few days..

Im short on testers since EI dont really need ones so ill just leave it as it is . I have plans for auto WC but wont have time to build it before vacation

Hi,

I do the following for vacation:

1. Reduce lighting DURATION to 6 hours daily.
2. Large WC (80%) for the last two days PRIOR to leaving.
3. Reduce lighting INTENSITY by raising lights 2-4" than current position. Not sure if you can do the same.

Since you autodose you should be fine.

If running c02, just double check everything to ensure all is working. No dirty discs, tank running out, etc.

I usually clean the filter media about 7 days prior as well. Ensures it is clean but has some time to build back any bacteria bed before you leave...

The biggest issue in vacation is compensating evaporation on open tanks
You have to solve it or you'll have big big issues:
- if you have surface movement, it will increase as water level drops ---> CO2 degas ---> CO2 deficiency
- light intensity on soil increases
- higher plants will become emersed and die

The other issue, for high tech tanks is trimming. It can be a real issue above one week trip if you don't plan it

So be sure at that point
