EI method and vacation?

Hi folks!

I have been doing planted tanks for about a year, and well, I'll spare the details, but I think most of have gone through what I have...

Last week I came across Tom's articles on the EI method and took the leap of faith (I know you have been there, it is hard to add PO4 in your tank when you are brainwashed not to!!! My hands were shaking as the drops of the solution were falling in the tank...).

Yes it has only been a week, but I can already see a difference. As I am working to balance things out, I have gotten a lot of green spot algae but it seems to be under control now.

Here's my question: I am going away for 4 days this week-end and since I am still trying things out have no idea what to do before I leave. Do I do a water change, add all the nutrients as I normally would and leave it? Or should I over dose a little and hope for the best? And oh yes, for the future, what type of dosing pumps (brand, etc.) do you recommend?

In case it matters, here's what I have:

90 gal (75 gal. water col.)
Coralife 4 x 65W, 6700K
CO2 with controller around 30ppm
GH = 6.5 / KH = 3.5 / pH = 6.6
Flourite substrate

Tom, your website and your articles are excellent. I have been to countless websites and forums in the past year - and read all the contradictory information out there. This is the first time I have ever posted in a forum. This says alot about your site and the people that post in it.

Re: EI method and vacation?

Thanks,

You will be fine, dose a bit heavy before you leave.
Turn down the lighting some if possible.

4 days is not bad, I've gone 7-10 with only some hair algae appearing and took it out when I got back and did a good trim.

A friend to come by and toss some ferts in and top the water off is a good idea also.

Re: EI method and vacation?

AM makes a decent one for 80$ or so.
You'll need two, one for the Trace and one for the macros.
