Does this spread as quickly as the other vars? I'm wondering how hard would be to maintain it in small patches around some rocks. I know its supposed to stay considerably shorter than the others.

IME, it grows just as quickly as other varieties. It does stay shorter and to be honest I cannot tell the difference between E. belem and E. parvula.

Ah... ok. I had heard that before. Sounds like would be more work than I'd want to put into it for the look I was going for. Right now tank is pretty low maintenance.

now that you mention it..and i stop to think about it more, the acicularis grows faster, yes, but the parvula grows at the same rate.

I do not find hair grass to be much maintenance. I trim every month or less, if i want to encourage runners. I've been wondering about keeping it contained and have considered using small plastic containers as a pot within the substrate for E. acicularis to see if it would prevent runners from spreading elsewhere. That way I could have tall bunches of grass in a field of shorter plants like HC, E. Parvula, or dwarf riccia and not have to cut off runners if I want to maintain the look. I want to do an iwagumi-esque layout with a grassy field/meadow look.

My substrate isn't that deep towards the front of the tank. I was thinking about a few thin tuffs around the rocks for accents. I still need more crypts on the left side to fill in.
