Dual Stage Regulators

I've tried to look at the diagram several times but still don't know why lower input pressure creates higher output pressure (in single stage regs) which causes EOTD.

Inlet pressure aids in sealing which is reduced as pressure decreases as well.

Is is possible to connect directly to CO2 tubing from a Swagelok tubing connector? Instead of adapting to 1/8 npt and then using a 1/8 npt hose barb fitting?

It is as long as you are using 1/8" OD tubing for the 1/8" fittings. (same fitting size to same OD)

You caught the glitch. Those fittings are for 1/8" OD.

There are different ID's used. 1/8" is very common.

I use: Tygon® Laboratory Tubing 1/8" I.D. 1/4" O.D. and 1/16" wall

You have some parts wrong.

List them in order starting at the regulator and working all the way to the tubing.

You have too many male 1/4" parts to tell what you are actually trying to do.

A really simple design is to use:

- from regulator to solenoid: SS-4-HRN-2 Hex Reducing Nipple, 1/4 in. Male NPT x 1/8 in. Male NPT Price: $6.15

- Clippard solenoid (1/8" female ports)

- from solenoid to needle/metering valve: SS-2-HN Hex Nipple, 1/8 in. Male NPT Price: $4.72

- from needle/metering valve to 1/8" ID tubing: SS-2-HC-1-2 1/8 in. Male NPT, 1/8 in. Hose ID Price: $5.64


You will have something like either of these two with this simple design.

Not a so good idea to mount that way, you loose the real benefit from Swagelok tubing adapters: no leaking fitting

Both,

using the parts I mention you get a leak free setup and no torsion on the tubing while you lock the screw. Look their site for the way the locking is done. It's not easy to understand but very precise. You have to turn the screw 1 and 1/4 turn exactly

Ah, I think I see. For two stage regs, the increase of the pressure after the first stage
will aid in sealing at the second stage, clever.
