Does cyanobacteria need to be introduced to a tank to infect it?

    I'm trying to understand how vigilant I should be with sterilizing plants that I receive from others. If I never introduce outside contaminants, would I still get cyanobacteria? I know that algae spores get into tanks no matter what you do, but what about BGA?

    Cyanobacteria are absolutely everywhere. There are several genera and species in your house, walls, and tank already. It is completely pointless rinsing or sterilizing your new plants.


    Healthy plant growth and keeping organic waste low are the only solution that I know of.
