Went to the LFS today and turns out he was quoting me on a Deepblue rimless reef-ready tank. So now I could use some suggestions for custom tank builders on the east coast say around Fla/GA area.

    Hi,

You can try these folks that people on reef central have talked up....

    http://reefsavvy.com/

I have no personal experience with them however....

I went to NJ for mine :) http://www.coasttocoastaquariums.com/

When I originally went google for 'custom tank builders' there are many smaller outfits that do acrylic for the most part. They did not want to build me a glass tank of my size nor the stand and light bar. Many are more localized if you want to go that route.

I know I could do the light bar via conduit but while they are doing the tank and stand already.....I thought it would be simpler to go all in one.

The big players from my basic research and scope seem to be in no order:

Coast to Coast (well, first as they are doing MY tank :) )

AGE - many examples on reef central http://acrylicandglassexhibits.com/index-4.html

    ELOS - http://www.elosusa.com/products/aquariums

Lee Mar - Tom has used them I believe

Glass Cages - Tom again has his 180 from them http://www.glasscages.com/ - LOTS of discussions and experiences with them on the internet forums....Tom's looks nice!

Miracles in Glass - reef central again with many examples and pics/recommendations. I also have a link to a 4 sided starphire and maple skirted stand from them in my custom build thread that is just beautiful...http://www.miraclesaquariums.com/

Chris at CTC spent a LOT of time with me and his customer service was/is excellent. Made me feel very confident and that was a huge factor going forward....

There can also be quite a price differential based on your configuration/specs/size/etc... But, you can also get what you pay for...

Take some time and contact each initially via e-mail or phone and see how that goes....

    Hope this helps.

Much appreciated. 4 sided starphire? That had to cost a pretty penny.

Have you received your tank yet or is it still being constructed? I looked at CTC's portfolio and really liked what I saw. Very nice work. When you get your tank I'd love to see some pics though.

CTC had a 50% discount on starphire glass so I saved a lot...

Even w/o the discount, I would have paid it..

Under construction and should ship on 7/5. A few pics of the tank under 'cure' time are in my build thread on pg 13 I think..

I will post plenty once I get it :)

I think you need to use a retail store to order... You may need to google it...

Pretty sure they do not direct to the customer...I know Tom has used him...

Yeah... that was in my last quote. Still rolling things around in my head. Got a month to make my mind up. I might just say hell with getting it drilled and use a hang on just to get a nice starphire rimless with clean seams etc with a nice sticker that says "built just for...". Last time I was in Toms River wasn't the best time of my life but I was young. Hehe... Don't crate it, I'll wrap it in a blanket carrying it home like a baby.

Can it be built like a reef tank? Get all the good stuff thats "over-sized" so when I upgrade the tank its just a new tank? Heh.

Well, CTC does the personalized stencil regardless :)

I finally thought that a rimless tank WITHOUT any holes would just be better overall.

The drillings make the plumbing easier to hide and make it easier in many respects, but it also causes huge real estate loss.

Once it is drilled, you can't go back either :) afaik lol

Well, my tank may weight 600 lbs or so, can't really toss in the trunk and drive home with it :)

Wonder how much that cost?... personalized stencil. Hehe... 600 dry weight? No wonder you invested in movers. I can't do more than 75 gallons when there is a Porsche under my tank and feel I won't be buying it anytime soon. I'm still in an apt. I so can't wait to have my own house and slap a nice 180 or 240 up. I might have to do 2. I like reefs but nano just isn't a good way to get into that.
