Hi folks, is there a maximum CO2 saturation level that freshwater cannot go beyond? Just interested as I am starting a new tank and want to gas it with pressurized CO2 and high ferts to get the plants established at maximum rates before adding livestock. This will be my first pressurized CO2 tank, so please excuse any noob questions. Cheers.

I could be wrong but I think you are better off going for stable co2. Plants seem to acclimate to the level of co2 available so if you dial it way up then slack back I think you will see some issues then and see algae start taking hold.

Once you reach a 1.4 - 1.6 drop in pH I doubt there is any added benefit in going lower.

Hey @Phishless , I started a new thread on this but its taking 6 hrs to get my pH drop of 1.5 at 3 bubbles per second, and if I increase the bubble rate, the fish gasp. Any advice? KH is 6, temp 24ish. Thanks

What is the CO2 going into?
A reactor or a ceramic diffuser?

I use an old school reactor filled with 8 bio-balls in a 1-1/4" inline PVC.
On an 80 gallon tank with a 1.5 hour start time before lights on I am at target.
A few bubbles pass through now and then but CO2 20 pounder lasts over 10 months.

    Never ran CO2 24/7???

@Phishless The CO2 is going through a new diffuser which seems to make fine enough bubbles.

I've never used a diffuser only reactors, so basically no bubbles in my tanks.

Maybe will just need CO2 on early enough for photo period but 6 hours seems like quite a long time.

@Phishless Should I try dropping my KH from 6 to 3 and see if that helps?

Is there a reason for 6dKH? Phish related?

@Phishless No, recommendation on the bottle was 3-6dKH for planted tanks. I went for the higher concentration thinking it was a good thing. What do you recommend?
