If I am injecting CO2, is there any value to also adding Seachem Excel?

Only if you are battling any algae.

At start of a tank, while you are dialing in CO2, it helps keep algae at bay.
I used to dose 2x daily

I am embarrassed to say that in my last tank I dosed it weekly without ever thinking about the fact that I was also using CO2... back then I only measured bps, and I rarely used more than 1 bps, so maybe that is why it worked (and I only rarely had algae). Even though I have kept plants for years, I have to admit I did a lot of things without ever really researching them or understanding why... like a lot of people, I guess.

I found that if you use DIY CO2, with the wide variations in CO2 concentration that you normally get with that, BBA is hard to avoid. But, by daily also dosing 2 ml/10 gallons of water of Metricide 14 (almost the same as Excel) I don't get BBA except in very rare cases, and in very small amounts, easy to get rid of.

Merticide is much stronger (almost 1.7x) so you were over dosing which is why the BBA was at bay.
