I have wondered why we capitalize both letters of acronyms such as GH and KH, but do not capitalize the "p" in "pH".

I've also wondered what "pH" stands for. I've heard "potential hydrogen" and "power of hydrogen". Is that current?

Thanks.

From the net:

The term "pH" was invented in 1909 by the Danish chemist Søren Sørensen.

pH was originally written by Dr Sørensen as PH, and it stands for pondus hydrogenii which means "potential hydrogen". The terminology refers to acidity being due to a predominance of hydrogen ions in an aqueous (water containing) solution.

Interesting that Dr. Sørensen wrote it as "PH" instead of "pH."
