    Hey everyone.
I live in Pakistan and all the nitrate products are banned here except Calcium ammonium nitrate.
Can I use it to replace KNO3?
If yes then at what dose? My tank is heavily planted.

Yes. Use Wet's nutrient calculator and figure out the dosage. You'll be adding Ca as well as N in two forms.

I thought the NH4 in the "Calcium Ammonium Nitrate" would cause algae bloom.

    ADA Amazonia contains NH4.

NH4 is not the cause of algae.

NH4 loading from more and more fish seems to cause algae.

NH4 up to say 1 ppm per day does not seem to from inorganic sources. Plants will not need/use more than 0.8 pp m to maybe 1 ppm per day under 99.99% of cases.

Thanks everyone. Tom does that mean I need to dose CAN daily under 1ppm of Ammonia or otherwise there will be free ammonia?
How do I calculate what percent/amount of my dosage has how much ammonia?

% NH4 in the molecular formula weight/water volume in liters or milliliters.

Say the NH4 is 25% of the Calcium ammonium nitrate. So 0.25 x molecular weight of Calcium ammonium nitrate
    Then say you want 0.5 ppm of NH4 in a 100 liter aquarium. 1 Millligram/liter = 1 ppm.

So 50 milligrams of Calcium ammonium nitrate is required to dose 0.5 ppm.

I do not know the weight or have a calculator etc.........of product you are using nor the %, but that's how you'd go about it.

    Tom,

    You mean 1 ppm NH4 compound or 1 ppm No3 from NH4 compound (+-0,34NH4) ?
