Hello to everybody,
I'm new to this forum but i hope to find an answer here for something i am struggeling with already for a long time. At some moments all my plants start to show brown edges on their leaves edges. See example picture, but this is also the case for anubias, vallisneria, crypto, nymphaea. I dont know if there is some fert missing or am i overdosing something.

If somebody knows the answer i would be very happy.

Greeting from the netherlands,
Sandor

looks like diatom algae, you can also see it on the roots and leaf petiole . Usually associated with a new tank or a nutrient poor environment

some of them are easy to wipe, others are really stubborn and need a toothbrush or razorblade to scrape off
What is your dosing like ?

Thanks for helping me out,
I am using solution of dry salts which i buy. I dose once a week after 50% water change.
1 tsp KNO3
1/12 tsp KH2PO4
3/4 tsp MgSO4
3/16 tsp CSM trace elements
1.5/16 tsp DTPA iron

I'm using CO2 115 bubbles per minute. 5x 24W T5 above 175 liter tank.

I always asummed this recipe from the supplier was correct. But looking around it seems to be on only 20% of other recipes for KH2PO4 and MgSO4. Could this be the reason for my defects? For KNO3 it seems close to others.

i don't see anything in your dosing that is very much out of the ordinary and with the water change schedule it should stay within reasonable limits. PO4 is plenty and Mg is also enough even if you use distilled water. I

That said, some general notes
- you are really dosing a lot of iron. If you want to change something reduce the iron dosing to a tenth. It's difficult to translate cooking/eating utensils in mg but if rotalabutterly is right your Fe-DTPA dose adds 2.6 mg/L Fe on top of CSM- there is no need for that . Do you run out of iron if you don't dose the Fe-DTPA ?
- given the plant selection present in the tank, the light seems too strong
- you can see some diatoms on the CO2 reactor so it's likely just starting to colonize

Hi, i dont think i run ever out of iron. I will try to lower that.
The lights are only 4.5 hours on at 100%. The rest of the day it is lower light 25 to 45 %.
We will see how it goes with the lower iron.
