Hi all,

First ever post.

I'm in the process of gearing up for my first ever planted aquarium. (90g Allglass, EI dosing, CO2 injection). I'm designing a hood for the added light I'm going to have, to include 4-55 watt CF's from AH Supply and two fans. For purely aesthetic purposes I’m going to add some blue led “Moonlights”. …

Now for the question – Is there any real benefit to a freshwater planted aquarium to simulate moonlight as is recommended for saltwater reef setups?

Thanks,
Pat

No.

None.

I think you'll find the white LED's loo far better aesthetically.
So for night viewing, night lite etc, they have some merits, but not for animals or plants.

The $ is not relevant, getting the significant other on board is;)

Much more important.
