Hi,

I am looking into buying some bio-media for my upcoming setup and am gravitating towards Sera Siporax or Ocean Free 3DM. The problem with these 2 are that they will also house anaerobic bacteria that eats the NO3 which will take away nitrates from the plants.

Are these okay to use? or can you recommend some plant friendly bio-medias?

I have noticed no significant denitrification activity from other popular biomedia with similar claims. That would not be a big worry if you are using a canister or a sump which allows good flow through the media.

Bio media does not sustain anaerobic bacteria.

Anaerobic conditions sustain anaerobic bacteria. When that happens you'll get anaerobic bacteria no matter what the media is.

Keep them unclogged and regularly cleaned and it will be fine.
