Re: Barr's Behemoth giant plant tank

Welding O2 for supply.
Not medical O2.

Cost difference, equipment, permitting is enormously prohibitive.

I'm just adding it at 1 point now, we have long lines for the retun so that's where, but I'll be adding some more valves to that O2 system and we can add at several points.

O2 is much less soluble than CO2.

Joe, give me a call, I'll only be phonable here.

Be a few till then, but if they enviromentals are maintained and they should not be tough as I redid the flow and disc and CO2 system to make it real easy to get pearling inside an hour or so of the lights coming on, I think things will do well.
We still have to put in 50 downoi, 100 Erios, remove some brown crypts/Rotala green, replace with Lobelia(easier to deal with, better flow in the design), wait for the back to fill in, the design is off balance at the moment, but once the weeds grow in and fill in well, the tank will really look good.

I'll add some chinese Wall rock, the blue basalt stuff ADA uses a lot, and one nice big piece of wood coming up on the right to balance the left side better.

That, + add a 2-3 month growth period with good CO2, I'll be happier.

It's a great-looking tank, even before it grows in.

It took a lot of engineering too, as well as plant smarts and artistic sensitivity.

Congratulations!

Awesome beyond my vocabulary!

How long do you anticipate before you are happy with the final scape Tom?

Haha, never.

It'll never happen.
"Acceptable" is the best I can offer.
That depends, mainly on the client, but I have faith in them.
The passion is there.

As far as a time? Maybe Feb-March.

I have selected the rocks for the midground, I think it'll add a nice dynamic to the tank and I have a neat piece of wood to balance the right side.

Any progress with the computer monitoring and webcam stuff? I've been knocking around ideas for an X10 powered auto doser and can send some testing scripts your way.

I'll be down there in Dec.
Not really till then, Altums are going in.
Fewer fish species.

All in all, good choices.

Here;s another tank I redid a little:

Tom, great meeting you at the AGA. This is Edward from APF, we talked about Eric Do and I coming down in Jan or so to shoot that tank. I really hope we get the opportunity to do so, it sounds like a marvel.

You've not mentioned why you set this tank up.

Is it for a customer? If so then will you be doing *all* the maintence? Sounds like a steady job! :)

What do you feed the fish? Must be some list! ;-)

I'll be down the Dec 20-23rd with my son.

I set them up for clients and have custom aquarium builders request me to do their aquascaping/plant choice/CO2 system etc and overall consulting.

I do reworks for this client as need be.
I do not do routine maintainence except fopr 2 clients in the SF area.
LA is a bit of drive:)

Here's an update, 24 Altums, all eating well, 30 Discus. Never got the HC growing well, switching to Utricularia grass.

I'm not going down there for another month or two, I'm redoing an office tank for the same client, he's swapping a 150 gal for 300 gal for the office.
This is not my photo but one the client sent.

Tom Barr

Well, that is his tank and I have not gotten a call nor email for over a month so that was a good sign:)

He gave it a serious hair cut the couple of days ago.
The Director for the LA Zoo said he wants a similar tank at the head of the Amazon exhibit as you walk in. Except bigger than this one. He came over to see it and was very impressed.

The client is quite giddy now that the fish are in and he's noted they do so well.

Tom Barr
