I've had a steady group (~8) for more than two years. Just recently I've noticed very tiny "shrimp" moving around the bottom of the tank. I will also confess that I just recently installed from new plants.

    Questions:

    1. I thought amano shrimp needed saline to breed? Do they?

    2. The "shrimp" do look like shrimp in that there are multiple legs. Could they be another species?

Yes, I read Amano's like brackish water to breed, but it is also true a guy I know is able to breed them in hard tap water... So, that's possible! Can you post a picture of the baby shrimp?

I changed out some water. Like gnats, they rose out of the soil and swam franticallly around. Eventurally they burrowed back in.

Yep, amphipods. Nothing wrong with them, it's like having a free micro-cleanup crew. Plus bonus fish food!
