I wanted to let you know that Photobucket decided to start charging users to hotlink photos..

    700cdaa6-2c9a-49d7-bd19-eb759c55e651.jpg

The move has sparked fury from users, who have relied on the service for years and now feel “blackmailed” into paying the subscription fee.

with this it also means millions are forums and blogs now have no images.

Im not sure how this affects the previous photobucket images but I thought it was a good time to let you know that with the new software uploading your images here is easier than ever :)

Upload when creating a post or upload to the gallery and bbcode that upload into your post.

With the media albums in the software can you resize the images to save alblum space while or after you upload? On the iPad it's kind of annoying since there's no built in tool to do it. Either that or I'm blind...

@toads74 this is an option that I can set easily, when you say iPad is it a viewing problem? Or loading time problem? Or your album space?

It is strictly album space. All the uploading, viewing, etc works fine. In fact it works better than vb did. :)

Thanks toads, I'll look into it, another option is to resize before uploading but I'll definitely look into the post upload method if it helps everyone :)

I would not be surprised if other companies begin to charge in the near future.

Even if you spread your photos among several websites you can still lose all of them as they all change their policies. And, if you post a lot of photos over several years it is next to impossible to locate all of the places where they are, move the photos to another site, and change the URL for each one. The best solution would be for forums like this to have a method to use a URL that refers to your own personal computer. Of course, then your computer would crash, unsolving the problem. Smoke signals had some advantages we didn't recognize.

I use Amazon simple storage service (S3). Pretty stinking cheap. Like REALLY cheap. It's based on how much space you use. Small company I work for has many gigs worth of video on their account, and they pay less than $5 per month. For pictures, I pay pennies a month.

yep, well for default users you can upload 1 pic a time (I used to) but I figured out when you make an account you get access to "My stuff" which lets you upload 6 a time. I have been using it since I started forums.
For those who want to check it out http://tinypic.com/

There are a few options, some that come to mind are tinypic imgur, imgbb etc.. my only concern is will photobucket lead the way now? I hope not but I imagine that these other providers will now take on photobuckets deserted users IMG load and change there terms and conditions.
