I`m a memeber on a few French message boards. they all seem about 10 years behind. PMDD is new school to them. On one board in particular, the moderators are still suggesting phosphate removers in the HOB`s and 7-12 ppm c02.

Using asperin to kill algae also seems common practice. That and peroxyde.

My question is, what`s the deal with asperin, and why should they not be using it?

Re: asperin as algae control

Well, you do not need to kill algae if you know how to grow the plants in the first place..............

Aspirin is not a plant nutrient.
I've heard of it before and H2O2 etc.
Aspirin will not hurt I think.

But it's not a long term solution to poor plant growth which is why they have algae. They still do not why they have certain algae species etc.
I learned what causes/induces algae to the species level a long time ago.
a few are a little tougher, but most can be induced by one parameters pretty much, this is also true for marine systems........

CO2 definitely needs to be much higher than their estimations. See hwo many folks have high light and BBA.

You also are also welcomed to translate the EI etc articles into French if you like.

Thanks Tom. The French version is done. :) See what Greg can get done without you even knowing!

I`m waiting for my wife to find the time to type it up properly for me, then I`ll send it out to ya. Hopefully it`ll be at the beginning of the week.

Off the preach the plant gospel to the disconnected!

Re: asperin as algae control

Well any altenative method is useful to some folks............aspirin can be investiagted and then folks can see if it really does or does not work.

But when folks guess and then one person reports a success, often times they think it was the pill they added, it could be all sorts of reasons they did not tell you.

Aspirin is widely available, which is always a plus. I'm trying to think about why it would kill an algae of BGA..............I do aquatic weed control professionally...........so I'll look into it more...........might be a little while, but I have tanks at work that have had BGA so I can test those.
