Nice light, for 48" long tank.
Damn bright too.

I have switched to T5's and this unit was only used 3 months. I have 2 new Coralife 10,000K bulbs I will include. Alkl the lights are HQI, with a simngle remote ballast that will switch the 150W and the single middle 70W on separate plugs. So you have 3 metal haldies over a 4ft aquarium and a very small fixture(so you could add two os hang an existing hood along with this one).
Specifications:

* Fixture Dimensions: 48" x 10.5" x 3.25"
* Ballast Dimensions: 14" x 9.75" x 5.5"
* Lamp Configuration: Lamp Configuration: Two 150W Double-Ended HQI metal halide bulbs (10000K), one 70W Double-Ended HQI metal halide bulb(10,000K).

You can add a 20,000K for the 70W or a 14,000K etc.
Many options.

I will professional ship and pack this unit, 2 separate boxes, one for the ballast and well packed longer one for the fixture.
These are very well made, a much nicer alternative to a series of pendents. As it's only 3 months old, it is in mint conditions and essentially "new".
You also get an extra set of new Corallife bulbs for 150 HQI. That's worth 100$ there.

Too much light and too much heat. Switching to a bank of T5's allows me to reduce the energy use and modify the amount of electrical. I'd like a mix of T5's and HQI, or PC's, but they do not have a reasonable hood for 48" length, so I went to this.

i always wonder when i see lights like the one above... what makes it worth $500, vs going to homedpot or walmart and buying a set of hqi shop lights and simply moutning them in a hood with a fan? for say $50 or less.

Mostly reflectors and ballasts. Shoplights aren't generally designed with the high humidity levels generally found in/around aquaria. Shoplight reflectors are designed to light up an area while the better aquarium lighting is designed to reflect light down and not so much to the sides. The really inexpensive aquarium lights probably really aren't anything more than rebadged shoplights though.
