In a recent reply to a question I posted about lowering po4 dosage, Tom said that 1.0-1.4 ppm of po4 a week should be ok to add. Now this confuses me because I've been adding 2ppm every other day which means I add 6 ppm a week to my tank.According to the E.I. article, Tom tested daily uptake rates in a high light tank to have max. uptake rates of 0.3-0.6 daily. So according to this, I'm addiing alot. Also at 10ppm kno3 every other day, this is 30 ppm a week I've been adding. I know excess does not cause algae, but let's say I add half these amounts a week, would that be ok to do in a high light situation?
The reason I'm questioning this is because after testing po4, it seems as though the levels in my tank never go below 2ppm.This is tested with kits checked from various know solutions so the accuracy of the test kit is good. The 2ppm is after a water change and before I add back any nutrients. Tap water has no dectable po4 in it.
Thanks for listening,
John
