Low light tanks can get algae easily too.

Did you recently stir up organics?

Do you have a lot of fish?

    How much are you dosing?

    Water changing?

    Just a few questions....

I know the feeling, that staghorn crap is the worst, it sticks so tightly to the plant that you have to get rid of the leaf! Then you wonder why nothing has leaves... You have the exact same algaes that I have currently in my tank, how's the surface film on your tank? Do you have any? I'm waiting for a skimmer to come in the mail, I'm interested to see if lack of surface film will improve things.

Likely deficiency of nutrients. What kind of light do you have? For how many hours a day? How much planted is your tank?

Your problem isn't ammonium, its lighting, either too long or too bright. With your low plant biomass especially

If u want to get rid of algae quicker and your shrimp to slow down a bit on breeding then yes. If u don't want to slow breeding then no. The algae will go away in time, takes patience but if your light is still too high then no.
