We are pretty new to the hint and just set up a tank a month or two ago and have an algae problem. We are trying to identify what type of algae that it is and what can be done about it. The algae is green kind of like dust and settles on all surfaces including plants. I think it’s blocking the light for some of the plants, which is hurting them. The water is also greenish color. I think this is brown diatom algae and a bloom of phytoplankton, but not sure. How do I fix it? Reduce light and frets? Completely remove lights and frets for some time? Use a UV filter to kill algae and plankton? Get more snails and shrimp?

Also, I’ve noticed that my PH goes up at night from 7 to 7.4-7.6.. have no idea why.. very confused on that part. Have been searching online for a while. And Monte Carlo doesn’t want to grow for some reason.

For whatever reason, it’s not letting me post my full post and keeps marking it as spam, so the list of what I have is below.
