Hi Tom.
Can you state the more obvious algae eating Plecos or refer me to a link that states this with any remarks on the damaging kinds of plecos to the plants please?

Re: Algae eating Plecos

My common pleco tended to treat the algae on my plants as salad dressing. He removed it and the underlying plant. The replacement Bristlenose cleans the tank walls and to date ignores the plants.

Ancistrus tend to do well, Pecklotia, Sturisoma, Rhinolocoria, Otto cats of about 5-7 genera, Rubber noses(Chataesoma), Anacanthicus adonis(Black statan does well as do most new showy $$$ plecos, the common ones/Tigers/Panaque and the Zucchini plecos love to eat plants.

Big ones are to be advoided pretty much.
There are African pleco type fish as well.

See Burgress's Catfish book, the best thing out there.
The World of Catfishes(TFH) and Carl's Catfish in the Aquarium books are all good.

I have a Royal pleco that always ignored plants..... until one day I had to treat the tak for ick and pulled out his wood so it wouldnt turn blue.... He ate my sword plant that night and ever since has viewed plants as a buffet... Rodney (as my kids named him) is now pulling solitary in a 20 gallon :gw
