I have been talking to Jeff at ADG about offering BarrReport members a 10 % off their web site cost.

Is there any interest in this?
I am going to work with LFS's in the USA to have them sell the line, this will market it to more folks and also allow folks to go in a see the products rather than see it on the web.

I'm interested because the next substrate I buy will be from ADG.

Re: ADA products offered to the BarrReport members for 10% off

I would be intrested in this offer as well . Tom , I am looking to cover the bottom of a 75 gallon planted tank that I may eventually try to put some discus in to increase my frustrations . Would you recommend the normal or powder sized Aqua Soil , and would it be a bad idea to mix it with some established Ecco Complete + it's mulm that is already in the tank . Sorry to put questions in my reply , but your answers change the amount I'll need and substrates are not as easily changed as filters , lights , etc. Thanks

Re: ADA products offered to the BarrReport members for 10% off

It's not quitre official yet, but appears to be something that Jeff and I may work out.

At 26$ for a 9 liter bag, that's more than enough for a 20 gal tank, 24.40$ then shipping is not bad as it's lighter weight than flourite and EC.

So it comes about to about 12$ a bag of comparable volume of Flourite or EC.
So it's quite cheap or very reasonable by comparison of the more common past substrates.

I think if you want to spend less, go with Soil Master or even less: plain sand.

But a 10% discount is nice and will off set shipping cost a fair amount.
If you'd like a LFS in your area to carry ADA product line so you can view the products, PM me.

Many folks will get into the hobby that don't use the web much this way and it'll also help the LFS fight to stay around in light of Petsmart/Petcos'.

Re: ADA products offered to the BarrReport members for 10% off

That appears to be a very good deal on the substrate. I just paid $19.00 for 3 litres. This is my first experience with the Aquasoil... still trying to deal with a huge NH3 (NH4?) spike within a couple days of initial setup. Not sure if this is normal.. never experienced this with other types of substrate.

Tom, why the change of heart when it comes to ADA products? It seems like you've sort of dismissed them in the past as being overpriced and snobbish. Have you seen results recently that were not possible with less expensive, or.. er... DIY type methods?

Would it be possible to ship outside USA, to Sweden for example? 8)

Sure they will ship outside I believe.

You need to do large water changes for the first 2 weeks or so(maybe 2x a week or 75% weekly). Plant very heavy from day one.

Then no NH4 issues.
Also, a mature filter helps.

Any word on this? I plan to visit Houston in May and if I could save a few bucks on some Amazonia and a tank, it would help pay for the gas!

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks Tom for working this out. The DFWAPC club is going to Houston for a presentation from Jeff on the ADA product line. Who knows what I will buy that weekend.

I appreciate you working out this deal.

Re: ADA products offered to the BarrReport members for 10% off

I believe most clubs have such a deal if you work a deal with them and support both them and the product.
There's no need to lie about anything:) It's all true.

But I do not think double dipping is allowable, e.g., 10% + 10% off etc.

My honest advice, buy several tanks, the 20 gals are nice but the 90cm and the 120cm are the best deals and something you will save far more on than mere substrate alone.

That is if you are going there.

Re: ADA products offered to the BarrReport members for 10% off

I am not associated with any ADA dealers there nor know any(other than ADA). I know the owners here in the USA as well as one in the UK.
The owner in the USA has extended the offer.

I'm in on the ADA products... I am moving soon and when I break my 100 gallon down, I'm taking out the flourite and going with aqua soil.

Re: ADA products offered to the BarrReport members for 10% off

Well, you should see a notable difference certainly, most everyone that's switched has said so, the % of folks that have said so is extremely high.

More so that other substrates.
Texure, color , grain sizing are nice.

I've always wanted a similar product to flourite but round sphere shaped 2mm grains white to slightly off white in color. The soft clay like AS would be nice as well, but white clay is possible/available but not seen much.

Most of the natural habitats I've seen aquatic plants in are red/brown, or white sands. The others are black muck.

The white sands are very common and make a tank look nice and bright.
I think some drilling company fior oil exploration makes a black sphere shaped sand with precise grain sizing in this range, but it was pricy.
