I have been away for quite a bit, still keeping my tanks; but not participating much on the forum. Work has been so insanely busy for the past few months I couldn't get away. Things have slowed and with much more time being spent in the office I felt it was time to get my mini into my office.

Here are a few teaser pics from last nights hardscape work.

Let me know what you think. This will be a low light, non CO2 tank. Microsword will hopefully fill in the aquasoil. I plan to use fissidens on the wood extensively, probably some anubias nana petite, maybe C. parva. I've also considered some hydrocotyle growing emergent on the tops of the branches. I don't think it will do okay without CO2. ...might have to get CO2!

I thought about some mini pelia, but wasn't sure how it would do with no CO2. Thoughts anyone? How about mixing in some hair grass like E. belem without CO2? If it will grow however slow I will do it, but I'm not sure it will.

Thanks for looking!

I would appreciate some feedback on the hardscape and planting plans.

Anyone know if mini pelia will do well in low light non CO2 conditions?

I've mini pellia (when you mean Riccardia) in a non CO2 tank, it's a slow grower (even with CO2 it isn't fast) but it grows without problem. Never tried E. belem, but acicularis and parvula do well without CO2, so give it a try. Not sure which Hydrocotyle you mean but I guess tripartita which does okay without CO2 and when you attach it to the tip of the branches, it will even grow out of the tank, it does great emersed;)

About the scape, go with whatever you like, you're the one watching it;)

I like the scape...just unsure about the log in front laying so level like that..how does it look w/o this branch? Or oriented differently? How about piling the rocks into more of a mound and using just your V shape?

the emergent hydrocotyle should be fine. atmoshpheric c02 and all that :) if the root mass is in the water it can draw nutes from the water column...

thanks for the replies. good to know a few of those plants will do okay without cO2. The mix of microsword and hair grass looks nice IMO. I added a third smaller branch to the V.

Gerry, unfortunately the horizontal log will only fit at that orientation. the tank is small. without it I don't think I will have a way to break up the carpet plants and it will look like it doesn't have much depth.

The tank is off and running as of last night. I could have screamed...well I did, and swore. I moved my bag of rocks and accidentally hit the top left corner cracking the glass there. the tank is still useable, but you don't get an ADA tank for just useable. I will most likely replace it when I rescape, for now I will have to put up with the chip.
