Hi planted tank experts, I've read somewhere that ADA aquasoil lowers KH and pH of water. I was wondering if it's possible to use this as a media to lower my KH and PH? I'm thinking of putting some aquasoil in a media bag and place it in my canister. Will it work? Thanks.

Seems like an expensive way to lower the pH. I'd imagine you'd get a lot of aquasoil dust in your tank, and if you move it around a lot it will start to break up. I have never done this poersonally, but peat moss will lower the pH. If you add it to the filter bag, it will turn the water more tea coloured. I wonder if anyone here has actually tried it on this forum. I know there are different grades of peat moss, and you'd probably want a more coarse grade. https://www.pthorticulture.com/en/training-center/what-are-the-grades-of-peat-moss/

Reading that you'd want the coarse chunk grade, or horticulture grade. Has anyone here tried this?

Thanks for the info. The thing is, I want the tank water to be clear, will Purigen fix it if I use peat moss?

Apparently purigen will remove the tannins (that makes the water tea coloured) over time. Peat moss is pretty cheap, you could run a test without breaking the bank.
