Some updates, I will try to remember to take pictures later:
The red BBA seems to have turned orange/brown. I think it is dying.
Thanks Tom! Why did the BBA turn red? From googling, the only time I can see other people's bba turn read is when they treat it with peroxide.
Here are some clearer pictures.
Interesting, I didn't know bba came in a red variety. It only seems to be growing on the driftwood directly in front of the pumps. If it spreads...
Can someone please ID the stuff in the 2nd picture on the previous post?
More interesting things are showing up.
A worm showed up in my filter.
I am not sure what is growing on my...
Everything seems to be doing quite well, from what I can tell. I have never had a planted tank before as reference but everything seems to be...
Seems that the filter floss worked quite well. This is a picture taken length wise across 4 feet of water.
Interesting. Thanks for the reply.
I noticed that there was quite a bit of vallisneria americana growing in the shade under my dock and I dug up a few stalks to take a look. There...
How do you make a tank fry safe without big ugly sponges on intakes? (body needs to be present to post)
This is precisely the information I was looking for. I have a non-CO2 system and very hard water out of my tap. So water changes should promote...
Perhaps I misunderstood my own premise. Val can absorb HCO3, correct?
I get the H2CO3 and CO2 part. What I don't understand is HCO3 over the...
Vacuuming is difficult with plants especially since most of them haven't fully developed their roots yet.
I just DIY'ed a temporary canister...
Mostly sediment because I was an idiot and didn't wash my sand enough and all the flow doesn't let it settle. (I am trying to do a riffle tank)...
I am afraid I don't understand. If the CO2 is effectively 0, will the ph still go up? What is the (simplified?) chemical formula to represent this?
Diatom filter? Canister? Many water changes?
(CO3)2- + H2O -> CxHx + O2
but does this tip the net ions toward positive, reducing the ph?
Something seems to be growing on my driftwood.
Not sure where this seed came from, but it is sprouting....
This tank is inspiring.
