Hi,

I bought 2 couples of this killifish today. They are 4 inch long, but can get a little bit bigger. Very pretty things, if they show themselves. For now they are hiding.

Someone here has / had these fish? Experiences?

For such small fish, you will be amazed how much shrimp will fit in their mouth.
1/2 as long as they are, some a decent sized Amano will be stuck in their mouths.
Good jumpers also.

Other than those two issue, EXCELLENT under used group in planted tanks.
Very pretty and many many species, shipping eggs, breeding etc..... is not bad either.

Very active Killi clubs all over the world, small group but very obsessed groups.
Good people to sell moss to:)

At a given time I might set up a breeder tank. For now I just hope they leave my cardinals alone. But they are all adult fish, not easy to swollow those.

Let's see if they will show themselves soon.

very pretty fish, dutchy.

I have a friend who has been toying with the idea of a good sized low tech planted tank he would like me to set up for him. I suggested those fish for it. With a nice schooling fish like some rainbows. I asked if he wanted shrimp, because we have to rethink the fish option if he did.

I just got a couple pairs of C. splendopleure "ekondo titi" last week. Very neat little killi fish, but they do hide quite a bit. I lost one the first night since I did not have a cover yet. Watch the jumping!

I read in the aquajournal that a triangle shaped cover at the corners keeps fish in...does anyone know if that works vs. an entire tank lid? Makes sense that jumpers run along an edge til they hit a corner then shoot up the corner and out.

I use a strip of lexan around my open top tanks as a lip to help with jumpers. It also seems to deter my dogs from using the tanks as water bowls.

Thnx, Shadowmac.

Unfortunately the fish are still hiding. I haven't seen them even once since I added them. :( :( They don't show themselves, not even for food. If it stays like this, I might sell them again.

mine came out to feed. I held frozen brine with some tweezers. I think they will get used to me with time and associate me with food, so come to say hi when I walk in.

You may need to coax yours out this way. They will get hungry enough, I think.

I just saw one, for like ten seconds. It was swimming around very stressed. As soons as I moved, it vanished between the plants again. Maybe hunger will drive them out over the next days. I'm going to give it a week to see what happens.

I had killifish in a planted tank once. Unfortunately, only one male gets to wear the colors. The others are endlessly harrassed by the dominant one. As adults, they would carry ottos around in their mouths, the latter being just a little too large to swallow. They were also fearless, coming out to investigate my arm when I was cleaning the tank. I think it would be fun to have a male and a couple of females in a very small planted tank.

I also have a couple of Aplocheilus lineatus "Gold" which even snap at the hairs on my arm. The new fish....still lost in the plants. :( Is already a week the day after tomorrow....

Still in the tank, one couple lives in one end of the tank and the other couple at the other end. The females mix, but the males keep distance to each other. Seems like they have their own territory...
