This forum is for Subscribers

This forum is for you guys ... I will probably hang around here ... but this is where subscribers can talk to subscribers (You probalby won't see Tom here) ... it should also provide a nice off topic location where website type problems can be fielded without us bothering Tom ....

Re: This forum is for Subscribers

Hi Greg, thanks for the forum setup, works great! BTW, how can I paste an
avatar up? I don't think I'll go with the Claymation ones you and Tom selected
unless that is all that's allowed.

Thanks,

Bill Ruyle

Criticism is never fun, but we got some great "critical" feedback in the old system from several subscribers ... "critical" both in the context that they didn't like the old format, as well as "critical" in that those opinions were important ...

I still have a lot of tweaks to do to this new website ... and several new things to add ... but tomorrow, my wife and I are going on vacation for a week to a beach where even our cell phones won't work (can you here Internet and email withdrawl ) ... and I will only have limited email access and probably even more limited internet access ...

But I will be back hard at it in a week ...

Well Greg; very nice job getting this up before vacation. I must say that this is a monumental improvement over the old format. I just hope Tom can keep up with all the questions.

Yes, that aspect does have it's advantages.
And obnoxious vendors and shrills away and no banners and ads.

I will also work to make a laudable sticky section full of old post, new post and the link section from hell.

I'm not out to make it a forum for the masses, just you folks.
So Anyone that wants to translate the articles into their native tongues/languages are free to do so here.
This same rule applies to post.

You can write in English and then translate it into Spanish and then post both text.

So

Spanish.............
Then English............

Etc on the same post.
You can open a translation window and bounce back and forth easily to do this and write simple! The simple text translates much easier!!!!
If you translate it back to English and it comes out fairly decent, then you can be assured it has fairly good translating text.

This is pretty cool really.
"Star Trek Universal Translator"
It'll get much better as the soft improves.

I hope to have Japanese on here if the software can support the characters.

I fully encourage that so that other folks who do not speak English as well can join in as a member as well. I would like to utilize the translation engines as much as we can and build up several foreign languages archived posting as well.

With a more limited group, this aspect will become invaluable to the world, not just the English speaking people.

That is a very important goal to me.

I am not interested in having the same type of sectional topics for the forum.
There will be traditional things as well, but I try to find things that better support this hobby from science and explain things much better than past attemps.

I encourage anyone and all to join in, I like discourse and trying to consider ideas and what and why they work.

We all learn through that path and then in turn, can help others.

More folks with this type of knowledge, the more folks that will have planted tanks.

Tom Barr

Re: This forum is for Subscribers

I like the new format but would offer this suggestion. I think there are too many forum topics which makes it harder to participate rather than easier. An aquarium can be broken down into two broad topics; the aquarium itself (including all hardware); and everything that goes in it.

Well, other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how'd you like the play? :) I think the bugs will be worked out in due course. Probably after Greg gets back from
the beach (probably not Phi Phi, either).

Tom Wood makes a good point about narrowing the picture down to two
categories for the forums.

Yes, so noted.
It's hard for me to chase things around as well.

I'd rather have most folk's input and viewing.
It's a group thing.
I'll discuss this with Greg when he gets back and lump instead of split.
The time thing is an easy fix.
Doesn't matter too much either, but would be nice to set it.

Re: This forum is for Subscribers

Hi Greg,

could you please find a way to eliminate/avoid repeat of the same content? Currently the forum _fertilizing and strategies_ appeares three times containing the same posts. It's confusing. Thanks very much. ;)

Detlef
