Hello!
Staurogyne growing in my aquarium for about six months. The plant has never caused any problems. However, during my absence during the week (the parameters in the tank have not changed), a big problem appeared. Im found huge locate plant damage. In fact, a piece of plant has rot till the roots. Perhaps the problem begins with the appearance of large dark spots on leaves. Later wasted a stalk. The strange thing is that the plant is grows practically the whole area of tank and the problem is in this area only .. (Hopefully). Who has this kind of problems or similar?.Any thoughts will be helpfull.
Conditions:
Kh3 Gh5.
Light 4 * 54 T5 10 hours
CO2 - 3bps and off for the night
Maintain No3-15 Po4 0.6 Fe 0,2 Trace. Daily dosage .

Hi,

You have some high light and good bio-mass. Have you INCREASED the c02 and other ferts for the growth rates and light level?

c02 demand is dynamic. What worked 6 months ago may not work now.

It looks like c02 issues to me....

Funny, I'm having the same problem with some sagittaria in my tank. Only one spot in my tank has this problem. The rest looks nice and healthy.

I removed the plants and roots from the affected area and passed the "gravel vacuum" thoroughly 3 weeks ago and brought up a lot of crap. The area seems to be doing better now. New runners seem to be rooting up without any problems.

Hope this helps.

B-

It will likely melt back about 60%, but it will take maybe a 2 weeks?
You'll lose leaves for at least 2 weeks, a little every day.

It'll bounce back, water changes, net the leaves out, clean the tank, filter particularly.
Check CO2.

I had it happen once.

The stumps regrow well though, so do not worry, water changes, clean filter, and then tweak the CO2 and little.
It'll take 2-3 weeks to bounce back.

Actually I constantly monitoring level of nutrition and CO2, cause its IAPLC tank and everything must be under control. I aways give more CO2 than plant use (DC is yellow always). Also I mentioned that its problem spot , not whole area. light is constant too., and exactly this problems place is on "open air"

Tom thanks
Im scared if its some kind of disease, not connected with nutrition, and of course scare that this things jump to another place in tank.
Actually filter are cleared each 2,5-3 months. Water is RO+Tap 1:4 (but tap troughs filter)

So its 2 variants:
1. - get this area off. vacuum the gravel ets..Its rally not good variant cause this place is very шт the center of tank and have very strong affection on composition. Also if i vacuum gravel and plant its in clear one -it takes to long time to start good grows.
2 - Do nothing - and wait - Its scary too :-(

What to choose?

Thanks

I removed injured plant, aslo remove substrate in this zone..add pure new aquasoil and plant some new some already injured plants again. From one side melting on this plant stopped but black dots remained on leaves.
But after 3 or 4 days

Its on new bush.
Also its appear quite rapid. At the morning it was healthy bush and on evening - this one

I think you are better off leaving it be and allowing recovery, it's happened 2x on my tank.
It regrows back nicely.

Takes 2-3 weeks and then really starts growing well.

It will not likely be ready by the end of May, you have 2-3 weeks, then regrowth.......this puts it out around 5-6 weeks etc.
UV is up to you, net out dead leaves daily for 1-2 weeks.
You'll see........

I've seen adapted staurogyne do that from CO2 issues as well. My CO2 wasn't kicking on properly for a couple of days and I didn't notice because I was out most of the time; I came back to exactly what you're showing there. After I fixed the CO2, everything turned green again within a couple of days.

Too little caused the problem.

Make sure you check CO2 levels near the substrate if you haven't yet.

Granted, If you can manage healthy HC then it's probably not CO2. I've just found myself regretting not mentioning to check it; too many threads drag on with bad suggestions because nobody wants to say it again.

Just have a little patience, I think it should bounce back.
Mine melted 2x and every time, it bounced back really nicely.

Now after 4-5 weeks, it looks like I just have not trimmed my tank, and you cannot even tell.

I'm not quite sure why, the CO2/nutrients/light did not change that much, CO2 a little perhaps, never 100% on that, but the filter clogging and not being cleaned + CO2/lack of water changes?
Could be.........

But once it starts to melt........it's hard to stop, it's a bit like Crypt melt.
But the plant stumps bounce back well.

It was a PITA when you have so much like the 180 Gal tank, since they lose leaves and those can clog the filter, it does not stop for 3-4 weeks.
Then things stop and the growth starts up nicely.

Thanks Tom,
So will hope for best variant.. And yes its really like crypt melt. But crypts mostly melted in way of dots in leaves - here another way. Melting starts either on new or old leaves and spread out by whole plant till its disappear .
Also strange that crypts grows near and its healthy.
