Hello All,

I just purchased some ADA Amazonia II for the substrate and have a couple of questions. I haven't put it in yet, I just wanted to clarify a couple things. The bag says "Do Not Rinse" but other peole on other forums say to rinse it because of massive cloudiness. Should I rinse??After putting it in, do I carry on EI dosing as usual or stop EI for a couple of weeks? I have read on other forums to stop EI for a couple of weeks. I have some Stemma root tabs, should I lay them in the very bottom on the glass, then put 3" of ADA on top of that. Will that help or hinder? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers,

Hi Singtoh,

Fair Warning: I have never used ADA Amazonia II or any of the commercial substrates.

The folk claim ADA Amazonia II is different http://www.adana-usa.com/index.php?main_page=afa_product_info&cPath=12_21&products_id=266, the problem with rinsing from my view is that the instructions say not to and I would fear after spending all that money for the substrate, I would be washing the good stuff away. ;) In addition, how can we complain if something doesn't work correctly if we have not followed the instructions. :D

Some amount of debris will end up in the water column and may take a while to settle out, if it is a real problem, a drop of sodium thiosulfate per gallon can help.

I always advise EI dosing with weekly 50% water changes.

Likewise, I see no reason not to use the Stemma root tabs as directed. I saw no claim of enrichment of ADA Amazonia II.

first of all ADA amazonia 1 is much better than ADA amazonia II interm of nutrient.

For your question do not rinse, just put into your tank and cover the whole surface with plastic or newspaper when you want to pour water in. Pour water gently. That should solve the couldy issue

As long as your not trying to put fish in the tank right away it doesn't matter about what type of substrate, cloudiness or parameter swings, just dump it in and plant and fill. Once the tank settles down then you can add fish.
