This can't be a new idea, but I did not see it when I searched. I painted the backside of my Drop Checker with appliance/tub touch-up paint to improve the contrast. This stuff is nasty (s/b used outside) and dries very quickly. I got a clean line by taping and removing the tape while still tacky.

I'll attach a pic, solution is still blue, but will end up almost clear (yellow/green).

Hi Adam,

I see you already had some advice from the gang. It's likely your CO2 that's low. I have a HOB and a cannister, used to be just a cannister. The best thing I did was go to daily dosing. Things are not too bad know except for the BBA that I got after a heater cooked the tank a while back.

This is a great idea!
Is there any issue with the paint leaching anything into the water? Some tub silicone is treated with anti-fungal/antimicrobial compounds that can be harmful, wondering if this paint could have the same thing.

CAL aqua released a white background version of their DC about a year ago after apparent 'public demand'.

Personally I can't see the point in buying something glass so that it is an almost transparent aesthetic item and then making sure it is clearly visible by painting the rear white;) May as well go the non aesthetic route. There were loads of white background ones before the glass became popular :)

The CAL aqua one uses an insert which can be removed if I remember rightly.

It's a quick drying Enamel, used for bathtubs. No fish/shrimp issues so far.

Because I already had the glass one and the paint was relatively cheap.
