What are some good books to buy for a newbie like myself just starting out with planted aquariums?

Hi,

Here are a couple I have:

Ecology of the Planted Aquarium - Diana Walstad

Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants = Peter Hiscock

The 3 Baensch Atlas books also have some decent info on plants.

This site is a good source as well.

The 3 books will provide a tremendous amout of detail.

Just note that some of it is out of date a bit.

To add to the last post; I also own this book and find it useful:

Planted Aquariums: Creation and Maintenance
by Christel Kasselmann

Christel also has a book published titled "Aquarium Plants" that I plan to buy in the future.

Barron's "Aquarium plant manual" is good.
Another is the one by James, Aquarium plants

Short simple books.

The Simple Guide to Aquarium Plants is also highly recommended book for new folks.

The one by James I believe is/was put out by Tetra press.

I have it at home and was a good/short book.

If you're very new, you may want to wait on the Walstad book ("Ecology of the Planted Aquarium") as it does get a bit technical. I read it very early into my aquarium hobby and I probably need to go back and re-read it in light of the what I've learned in the intervening few years. Nice book, though!
