I am a long time aquarium hobbyist, I have two planted tanks at present, a 10 gallon with an unknown grill-like plant I need to identify, and some shrimp. I also have a 29 gallon tank with Anubias that I bought about 20 years ago. This tank started as a planted discus tank, but my discus died years ago, and now it has a Flying Fox and a lone pork chop rasbora. I need motivation to finish these tanks.
My dream tank is a 75 gallon planted discus community tank with some cardinal tetras and maybe an Amazonian chiclid (blue rams?)or two. I have read about planted discus tanks and would love to hear from someone who has successfully managed one.

Hey everyone! Been keeping fish for just over half my life, but about 5 years ago I got bit by the planted tank bug and all hell broke loose 
I have kept a number of fish over the years, all fresh, mostly south american. I dabbled with malawi and tanganyikas a while back and just never got the same feel as I did for SA's/CA's.
180g synspilum breeding ground, also known as "the plant graveyard" because they chow _everything_
150g that currently houses all of my severum, some assorted catfish, a rescue eel, a lot of crypts and some lindernia (largely scaped by the cichlids)
40g co2 injected nursery tank, currently home to my mated pair of a. macmasteri some i. werner and a mess of c. pygmaeus and c. habrosus (too many different plants to list; it's also an overgrown mess currently)
20g long, lowtech albino longfin BN pleco breeding ground, largely bare bottom but some plants in pots/on hardscape (iguazu2009, crypts, moss and buce)
7.5g bowfront, lowtech, medaka and some shrimp (erios, more buce, dhg)
Assorted vases and food culture tanks as well, all contain plants, but mostly r. rotundifolia and subwassertang
More tanks in storage, but I gotta wait until we're settled in a new house so I can get my fishroom restored to its former glory.
I've also recently broken in to dart frog keeping after years of reading. Looking forward to learning more and hopefully even contributing if my failures in this adventure thus far can be of assistance to anyone!

I am from Borneo. I have a 90 liter tank, the tank is 10 months old now. I have some buceps, alternanthera mini, green rotala, red rotala in my tank.
Light on 10 hours per day, injected CO2 8 hours (CO2 start 1 hour earlier than light).
Tank has some tetras, rummy and guppy(i found out guppy is pretty good at eating surface oil film).
Pretty much having headache with algae on the first few months of my tank, but through experience sharing by community I learned, and dealt with my algae.
Planted tank is a hobby with much fun and yeah, i think i will have this hobby for the rest of my life.

Thanks for the welcome. A couple of years ago my kids set me up a terrarium. While looking for terrarium ideas, I came across aquascaping/ planted aquariums. I couldn't resist trying. I started a 40 gal breeder using dry start, using soil capped with black aquarium sand. Started with s.repens, baby tears. Once flooded I added ludwigia repens and Amazon swords. The ludwigia and swords pretty much took over. Had algae problems and allot of other beginner issues. Many times I would Google the problems and get directed here. Thought it was time to join. I'm planning a second 40 gal breeder. I've collected all the hardware. Just waiting for spring so I can order in my plants. Looking forward to tapping into the knowledge on this site.

I've been out of the aquarium game for a loooong time (early 70s). Much has changed. I found this place from The Planted Tank.
I've had a life-long love of plants -vegetable gardening, flowers, herbs, weeds, and finally have started to collect some orchids.
So now, add aquatics.
Tanner on the SerpaDesign YT channel recently piqued my interest in terrariums and paludariums.
I'm a bit constrained at the moment as wife and I are temporarily in a small apartment until our new house is completed in 6-8 weeks.
Then, watch out.
A month or so ago I did purchase a 55g tank to over-winter my orchids -a sort of over-sized Wardian case. I'll re-house those outside for summer and the tank will see some aquatic at that point.
Currently I do have a C. wendtii and a batch of C. parva from tissue culture growing emersed that I've been experimenting with.
I also also stuck some A. 'nano petite' in a couple of terrariums I've assembled.
All is going well.

I hope that other folks here return the effort by helping others.
PPS, EI, non CO2, Marine etc...........how ever you want to do it. Just know the trade offs folks get and look at the person's habits.
We all slack on CO2..........so that is why the non CO2 method works so well

I've worked in the industry for several years including 4 years at my states largest FW wholesale/retail aquarium shop as well as the states largest all saltwater shop where we harvested 1000's of coral frags.
Anyway, I got into the planted tank hobby a few years ago and setup a high tech 80 gallon rimless shallow tank.
It's had its ups and down over the past few years and I'm now looking to switch it over to a more "less maintenance" version.
Looking forward to the next phase and hoping to get some advice from people that know more than me so I can hopefully end up with a system that will last.

Hello. I'm Peter. I live in Green Valley, Arizona, USA and Alamos, Sonora, Mexico.
I enjoy planted aquariums with just the most basic of flora and fauna. Some of my techniques are old-school... I still use undersubstrate heating cables. I like old fashioned central systems with multiple tanks on a common sump. I like laterite in the bottom layer of the substrate. (Some of that old Dupla 'Optimum Aquarium' doctrine is hard to expel!)
My back and forth lifestyle has stifled fish-keeping significantly (small tanks that I disassemble each 6 months) for about 14 years. Got to play around with collecting Gila Top Minnows and Cichlasoma Beani from freshwater streams in Sonora Mexico, so that was fun. Someday, I'd like to stumble upon Desert Pup Fish in northern sonora (won't collect them in southern arizona).
Beginning this year we will spend nearly 90-95% of our time at our home in Arizona. Therefore, I'm re-entering the hobby with a much more zeal and enthusiasm.
Presently putting together 4 20L aquariums centrally controlled by a homemade controller that I'm building out of a Raspberry Pi 4, Node-RED, and Atlas-Scientific sensors. Covid-19 made us leave Mexico early this spring, so I didn't get to collect my Mesquite/Sabino/Chino wood for my tank stand. Bummer! Little by Little!
I'm a new member of the Desert Aquarist Society in Tucson, Arizona. Lots of hobbyist that are avid planted aquarium keepers.
We are blessed in the Tucson Arizona area to have Arizona Nature Aquartics which is completely focused on planted aquariums as well.

I another life, more than 20 years ago, when I lived in Upstate NY, I actually purchased a used 20lb CO2 tank from Tom Barr for my big 120gal planted discus tank (caught the buzz from George Booth). I doubt Tom remembers that!.. jaja.

I have always loved the aesthetic of terrariums.
I am new to the serious plant-keeping. It started when I finally indulged in the purchase of a couple of marimos. Then I started getting really into water plants and now I have a 10-gallon and a 5-gallon tank with an assortment of fairly easy-to-keep submersed specimens.
I also have a betta, a couple oto catfish, two mystery snails (in the 10-gal) and shrimp with some little oopsie-snails (in the 5-gal). My next project is a small plot of emersed plants in more of a shallow glass dish. I also have an apothecary jar that would make for a mighty fine terrarium.
I dream of having something closer to a 30-gallon shallow tank with some of the more demanding plants and aquafauna.
I spend a lot of time looking at pretty images of plants and gleaning bits of information about their keeping. I found this forum when I was googling buyer reviews of aquatic substrate.
