Hi all! I recently planted a 20 High that I had artificial decorations previously and also started a nano cube.

It has been a tough start with plants dying, algae growth, and frustration but I am learning and determined to make things good!

In my 20 gallon I have glowlight tetras, corys and a pair of Apistogramma Borelliis... the nano cube will be home to a betta once it is cycled and matured.

Stay tuned for a post soon in which I will be asking for help with my algae and plant melt!!!

New guy from Austin. I’ve kept a little bit of everything since I was in high school in the late 80’s. Did the reef thing when it first became popular years ago but got burned out on the saltwater stuff quickly. After taking some time off from the hobby my young son and I set up a low buck 40 gallon recently. Here’s some pics below.

Just wanted to say hey...

Anyone new or wanting to post in the gallery, feel free to do so.

I will ask permission and use some of the tank images for the report pages here and there if you wish also.

But tell folks what you have and keep.

I have 16 tanks right now, this always subject to change. Most are smaller cube all are open top, PC lighting and 2 tanks with MH's HQI 150w/ 10K bulbs.

The largest is 40 gal, the smallest is a mere 3/4 of a gallon.
Client tanks range from a 300 gallon marine to a 350 gal FW.
1 cold water.

I add CO2 to 6 of my home tanks, the rest are non CO2.

I keep mainly small fish these days.

Regards,
Tom Barr

Hello everyone,
I have a 10 gal fully planted bee shrimp tank which I started almost a year ago, I have red cherry shrimps in that tank as well. I am using ADA Amazonia light substrate in that tank. I also have a high-tech 20 gal planted fish tank which I recently aquascaped using new Amazonia light substrate on top and some old ecocomplete at the bottom. This tank is going through cycling for a week now, the fishes are in a quarantine tank at this moment. I also started another 20 gal tank for my shrimps which is going through cycling for two weeks now, I am using the Amazonia light substrate in this one as well. I have another planted tank which is 5.5 gal with gravel and ecocomplete mix substrate. I keep chili rasbora and golden back yellow neocaridina in that tank.
Thanks,
Sudipta Shaw.

So cal
Got our first family tank about 4 months ago now we’re up to 10. Got into aquascaping so we are enjoying designing and planting tanks and attempting patience as they mature and go through algae blooms etc. might start a journal on the new UNS 90L we picked up yesterday at the sale and Tom Barr talk st Pet Zone in San Diego. Using el jefe stone and a piece of manzanita we won at the raffle that Tom had broken off from a bigger piece. Super cool start to our tank! We have a 75 with a mix of community fish, one sorted bett tank with a few amanos and Otos, way too many nano tanks with neocaridinas, a 20 long planted with orange rilis ember tetras and gobies. A newly planted high tech 45 with zebra danio fry amanos and Otos. Will likely house neos and cardinal tetras. Excited to read and learn more!

Hi everyone,

I am getting back into planted aquaria after an 18-year hiatus. I bought my first aquarium in 1997 and was immediately attracted to planted tanks. During that time, I frequented APD and kept several planted tanks, some high-tech and some low-tech. After graduating from UCSB, life took me into new directions, I moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Santiago Chile, where I started a family and work leading ecommerce at one of Latin America’s largest retailers. Recently, I decided to get back into the hobby as it combines a number of my interests including, “building things”, researching topics of interest, automation/measurement/control and attempting to solve optimization problems.

Today I am building my dream high-tech planted aquarium that is just under 120 gallons (130cm x 60cm x 60cm). Although I am still working out the details, I would like to incorporate a significant amount of automation, measurement and control.

Here in Chile, it’s quite challenging to find LFS with large selections of quality products, aquatic plants and fish as the aquarium market isn’t very mature. This has made my project all the more challenging as I will need to build as many pieces of the system as possible and import the rest from the US & Europe.

It’s truly amazing to see how far the hobby as come along over the last 20 years and at the same time the potential it still has to grow. I hope to learn from this forum and to share my insights and experiences in this new stage of planted aquaria in my life.

Thanks,

Julius

Howdy!
New to the hobby and really enjoying it. I have a 30 that is planted about 60%. Running a fluval 206 filter and a fluval 3.0 LED light. I am using Amazonia substrate. Just ordered some dry ferts and have a Jebao auto doser hopefully up and running this weekend. Pushing CO2 through an in tank diffuse.
Currently starting to get a lot of staghorn and other green algae. Im thinking it is because I was running my light for 12 hours (have now lowered to 7 hours daily) and I am going to start the PPS Pro system this weekend.
Excited to get this thing turned around!

Hello everybody, I'm a brand new tank keeper and have been trying to dive into this incredible craft. So far my tank honestly hasn't been doing the best but I've noticed that my plants are finally starting to show new growth after about a week or so. I won't post pictures as my tank is brand spankin' new and I don't have too much to offer as far as artistic photos but I hope with practice and time I will get to where you all are!

I will say that I was having a lot of plants dying in my tank (melting, dying whichever) and after reading some of these forums my plants seem to do be doing much better, namely after I started doing daily water changes to limit nitrites/nitrates. Hopefully my bacteria will start to grow and do their job more effectively, I'm trying not to add any chemicals or anything as I really like the idea of it being "natural" (as much as one can be). Within a couple weeks I'm hoping to have some good photos to share.

Hello!

My name is kizwan & I'm from Kedah, Malaysia. I'm new in planted aquarium hobby. I have two tanks; ~40 & ~15 gallons tanks where the latter is planted aquarium. Mine is not beautifully setup like everyone else because I want to learn what plant I can use for my planted aquarium. I'm not very good in identifying plant & no one in my local forum know either.

Below is picture of my planted aquarium when I first set it up. This is no filter, no CO2, no fertiliser setup. I follow a tutorial that I found at youtube. So far I got similar outcome/problem but I can follow their guide to solved them.

(Update 22 August)
I planted new Rotala Indica because most of the original ones was uprooted/destroyed by a snail that I put to handle algae. My plan is to use shrimp but it doesn't arrive yet. While the snail ate algae pretty well but it also destroyed Rotala Indica plant. I moved the snail for now to my non-planted tank. Currently there is one algae eater fish that handle algae for now. I also add new plants.

(End update)

I honestly don't know what is the name of the plants. The taller one I take it from my drainage. The shorter one I got from a friend, floating plant he said. I also have found a couple of plants that may suitable but not sure.

(Update 25 August)
I managed to identify the floating plant, Water lettuce (Pistia Stratiotes).

(End update)

I hope to get help from you guys. Thanks!

Thanks for the add to your group.
I have been in the hobby about 45 years with my first real planted tank in 1980 when I was 14, I have tried many methods over the years from dirted to hi tech systems.
Currently I have 320L 84 US gallon 120cm long x 45cm wide x 60cm deep (48"x18"x24") Fluval Plant 3.0 light, Fluval FX4 filter with the Filter Pro upgrade, Seachem Flourite + Flourite Sand + Denerlle Crystal Quartz cap, Fertiliser I use TNC Lite.

Hello everyone,

I have joined because I'm looking for advice; I have a 280l planted tank with CO2 and EI ferts. I'm using a Fluval FX4 with 3kg of Biomax Ultimate media and doing a 50% water change each week. The tank is quite heavily stocked because my platties bred prolifically but NH3 and NO2 levels are 0. I have a BBA problem which I think is caused by high levels of NO3 and PO4 in my tap water; I don't use RO water. I have had success reducing NO3 levels but not PO4. I hooked up a Fluval 205 with some ferric iron phosphate remover but it hasn't brought the PO4 levels down at all. It's likely that light intensity, photoperiod, CO2 and ferts levels are contributing factors, so I'll be looking around here for those topics of discussion as well.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be helpful. Hopefully, my next post will be about what worked.

Bye for now,
Guy
