I find most of the information I am looking for either from Tropica (illustrations):

I would be interested to know if anyone has found any other good sites. I know there is an area on this site... but it has either been neglected, or it is just not up yet...

APC has a good Plant Finder, http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/plantfinder/index.php, which I refer to all of the time.
I use Sculthropes book and google with the scientific name.
With some plants, being so new etc, they are often not described and maybe the same species, but a different variety with gets back to what is a species to start with.
There are many books and web sites dedicated to that, but they tend to be very poor on the actual specific environmental conditions for each plant species/variety.
Or put another better way, none one has done extensive species specific preferences for each species over a wide range.
General comments are at best applied in most cases.
As such, they are only useful in general terms, to the point of not being useful, to most hobbyists other than for ID/pic purposes.
The scientific literature is more about where they came from and highly specific, but not all species are given such attention that the hobbyists might use.
A lot of folks just try everything and see.

Since David said "references"...I'd like to tag onto this and ask if there are any good reference books about plants: Id of plants and their care requirements mainly. For the how to I come online, but there is nothing like a good book, IMO when you are trying to vilualize what you want to get as far as plants.

"Aquarium Plants" By Christel Kasselmann - Krieger Publishing
"The Aquarium Plant Handbook" From Oriental Aquarium
"Aquarium Plants - The Practical Guide" by Pablo Tepoot from New Life Publications
"Encyclopedia Of Aquarium Plants" by Peter Hiscock from Barron's
The first two are the best, and are gold standards for planted aquarium references, but It's good to remember that just about any publication is fraught with conjecture once you bounce it around web based forums.
Here's the Kicker, "Plants can't read" and will waste no time in making a mockery of the Educational Process !
