I found out some people use this bacteria to clear organic matter in aquarium. Can anyone tell me more about this? If it have any effect on Nitrogen cycle? I'm not planning to use it but just want to learn more.

thanks for the reply, i started looking for this bacteria and i already ordered one on amazon "SL-Aqua Black More PS Bacteria for fresw and marine. also found another website glassaqua that sells the same or similar, i think is the same co. i have used EM-1 probiotics and i dont know if that it is photosynthetic, but after i saw your question i started researching, the other company i am going to ask is ecological labs-Microbe Lift, i am aslo waiting for API.., Dr Tims(one and only bact) already answered No. i am very interested on this bacteria because i have a tank that i can not vacuum the substrate because is completed covered with plants and i have goldfish that eat a lot, one of my goldfish is going on 16 years old.

I think EM-1 (or EM4?) is more like food for plant. Definitely not photosynthetic. Please update here or link to your update. I'm interested as well. One of my low tech tanks have a lot of mulm/detritus. I vacuum every week but it build up pretty quickly. Ghost shrimp, specifically riceland prawn loved detritus but they're very territorial to each other & there's only two survived in the tank. You need an army of them.

EM-1 is also used for aquaculture, there is is a web i use SCD probiotics, the part for aquaculture. the malaysian trumpet snails might help you with your detritus. i dont vacum my gravel cause is completely cover in plants and thats why i am interested in that bacteria. i called Microbe-lift and they said that Special Blend has some of the PSB, no wonder i like that product. besides, for some reason almost everytime i use a waste control bacteria one of my goldfish gets fin tail rot with red veins on his caudal fin. Microbe Lift has also one ," gravel and substrate cleaner" where the water gets very dark for a couple of days. i am wating for Tom Barr to see what he has to say about this PSB..

I wish I can get snails & shrimps so easily from where I live. The only way I can get snails & shrimps are by buying them online. I prefer not to buy live animal & shipping them to my house. Especially in this covid time where package can get stuck somewhere. If you tried PSB/purple bacteria, I really appreciate it if you can let me know the progress in your planted tank.

Forgive me if I'm missing something but wouldn't buying "photosynthetic bacteria" mean purposly paying for algea?
We've been using organic septic tank bacteria for a couple years and they work wonders on tanks with hang on backs and canisters. Greatly reducing the maintenance on them since those microbes are eating the gunk all of your other good bacteria won't bother with and mineralilizing that gunk into plant food. Haven't noticed any real change in maintenance on our sumped tanks but that's probably because the biomedia area on those is so large those bacteria are already flourishing and don't need to be regularly cleaned out and re-added.
On a side note. No disrespect to Dr. Tim's, it's amazing stuff but it's just their blend of septic tank bacteria at 10 times the price
