Hello burr,

do you still have Pantanal in one of your tanks? How ist it doing? And did you test Ammannia/Nesae in one of your tanks?

Greetings

For anyone not following on TPT, a couple of months ago this tank sprung a leak! The bottom seal blew out

Here it is in progress

Long story short, I would up going with a new 75 gallon in its place. Three days later it was up and running. I put the plants back in just like they came out

About a week later

Been a few iterations since then, starting to get a feel for the new layout

Here's the latest. Think this is the basic layout Im going with as far as species and where they're at. Gotta work on shaping the groups, several things need to fatten up, etc etc

Honestly Im tickled pink to be working with a smaller tank. Its so much easier to reach everything.

Will start a new journal here pretty soon...

Never had much luck with A gracillis but I havent tried it in a couple of years. Actually have some A crassicaulis coming from Vin should be here in a couple of days. We'll see how that goes

Pantanal does fine for the most part. It likes high everything. Current ones in the farm tank

Shame about the leak, such a nightmare.
Looks good though. Buce on the moss wall was a nice touch.
Thanks. Turns out it was blessing in disguise because Im loving the smaller tank

Buces are probably going back whenever I get the "horizon" mapped out. They just stick in place, very easy to move/remove

Hey Burr,

The 75 looks great already. I like the moss walls and was thinking about using something like that for my other tanks with annoying backgrounds. Sometimes Ill google "nbat aquarium" and look for ideas. On some of them you will see lobelia or maybe anubias planted somehow rite on the walls . Is that how you had some buce ? I didnt catch that. Also, I know you have some of your tanks with blackened out sides/back. Do you use paint to do that or some kind of cover ?

Filtration

Two canisters: 1 Aquatop CF 500, and 1 Hydor Pro 600

Measured flow combined is about 600 gph.

1 Koralia Nano 425 for added circulation

Both canisters have SunSun intakes with the skimmer

Left corner is the the Aquatop. Using a 1" outflow pipe to reduce velocity

Right corner is the Hydor. The CO2 runs inline with this one.

Dear Bro,

I have a few questions regarding about the filtration and circulation. My tank is 120cmx45x45 - 250L and I am trying to use 2 separate canisters like you.
What is your design of water flow of this tank? If possible can u sketch some draft?

What I have found in the internet is attached for 2 separate canisters. Can it ok?

Thanks.

That diagram is a good way to do it if your plant arrangement can take the current at it's strong points. For example if you have a tall group of delicate stems in the back left it may be disruptive

Mine is different because the tall curtain plants in the front corners would get blown over too much.

43996335741_b839340111_b.jpg

CO2 is connected to the right hand filter. It has the strongest gph. Aimed about the center of the front glass where it sorta disperses all around in the lower area. The left filter is also strong but I have it turned down a good bit. Its aimed at the surface going straight across the back, primarily to provide good surface agitation. Then it blows on over to the right and goes down the wall over there. For the most part the left side flow passes over and above the general direction of the right side flow, because the right side is aimed down.

There is a some intersection with the two flows, which is generally to be avoided, but if the flow is too strong to begin with having them intersect can be a way of reducing velocity (plants arent blown around as much) as long as the intersecting flows do not create dead spots.

So you'll just have to adapt the flow pattern according to the plant layout. Main thing is to have both filters complimenting each other in the same general direction so there are no dead spots

Hey burr,
Could you please post your par readings?
If I recall, must be about 120 at sub?

I noticed you don't dose any cl at all.
Why? I think it's also important.

I don't know how much cl is needed.
I thought you were using 100% ro.

Hi Burr,

Can you name that 4 bulbs u used and arrangement?
For 120-45-45 cm tank, 4 bulbs are enough? How many cm should rise the tubes from water surface since the soil is 6 cm.

Thanks.
The new 75 is around 100 at the sub. Only running 4 bulbs with a heavy red and heavy blue in the mix.

4 bulbs will be plenty. How high above the tank depends on whether it has a single reflector for all bulbs or individual reflectors for each one. The latter is much more powerful.

With a single reflector you could position it anywhere from 6" and lower. With individual reflectors somewhere around 10-15" above the tank. That's just generally speaking, the type of bulbs also plays a role in how bright it is

Color wise for four bulbs I like one very warm, a strong red, a strong blue, and then a 6500K or a pink flora type

Current combo is 3000K, Powerveg 633, 420 actinic, Wavepoint UG
